In addition to teaching at Phillips Academy, Andover and Longy School of Music, I offer private lessons at my home studio. If you have questions about scheduling, rates, etc. please e-mail me anytime at info@davezox.com. I would love to hear from you!

Here are some brief references from current and former students and parents of students.

Dave rekindled my son's enthusiasm for the bass. After three years of strict classical training, Liam was ready to give up, but Dave's patient, versatile style of teaching has him looking forward to his bass lessons; he even requested to continue over the summer! Liam now practices without being nagged, has a new interest in jazz, but is still enthusiastic about participating in his community orchestra. Dave is fun, yet rigorous and responsible. We're glad we found him!

David Zox has been a very influential teacher in my life. I have had the great opportunity to study with David for the past several years. Not only does he display expert musicianship and knowledge in each lesson but he shows sincerity towards his students. It is this aspect of David which makes him a very valuable teacher and mentor. Furthermore, David is very enthusiastic for each lesson and knows how to craft a student into being a more well-rounded musician.

David Zox is an extraordinarily talented musician and teacher. Mr. Zox has given our son music lessons on the double bass for the past three years, and during this time has made practicing, working on difficult technique, taking on new musical challenges such as orchestra auditions -- something to look forward to. As a teacher he allows each student to develop at their own pace and in their own musical direction. For example, our son was undecided, as to whether to play jazz or classical music and Mr. Zox enthusiastically encouraged him to try both. There also is no pressure to choose between German or French bowing styles.

We were given his name by another parent, who said "this teacher is extraordinary, you will not be disappointed." Cautious types, we interviewed a number of teachers and none of them had the same interest, enthusiasm and warmth. Our son has had two challenging auditions, which Mr. Zox coached him through and is now playing in two advanced student orchestras. He has an excellent musical ear and sense of phrasing, and is gentle, but persistent with corrections.

As a teacher his greatest gift is that playing music has become a good friend and part of our son’s life - whether or not he continues on into it as a profession. Finally, Mr. Zox is equally talented with beginners on the double bass, as our son was three years ago, as well as with advanced students playing music as composed.
